March is Women’s Month! And Us Girls Can is gearing up to celebrate the occasion with 5 powerful women who are noted trailblazers in their particular genres. Each of these women will join us on our conference call every Monday evening at 9 PM EST starting, Monday, March 2 to discuss their achievements as well as the pitfalls and challenges that they have overcome and how they can assist you in your career path. Monday, March 2 – Bishop Michel White Haynes (Women In Ministry)
Bishop Haynes is the Founder and Senior Pastor of Cathedral of Greater Faith (formerly Greater Faith Temple) in the Bronx, New York. She carries an Apostolic mantle upon her life and has been called by God to be a covering for several ministries throughout the United States. As a proponent of education, she holds both a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Theology. Commencing ministry as a young woman, not only has she been a faithful preacher of the Gospel for over three decades, but one who’s leadership is quite well respected among her peers, including, men. In addition, she is accredited with being multi-talented and gifted in the area of music and choir directing. Bishop Haynes is the author of “Left Handed Victory”, a book which tells of her life victories and struggles, to and including, navigating her church from a small storefront to a multi-million dollar cathedral. Lastly, Bishop Haynes was recently consecrated a Bishop in the Lord’s Church in November 2014, historically sealing her legacy as one of the first black female (Pentecostal) Bishops in New York City. This anointed Woman of God continues to shatter the glass ceiling and is a beacon of light and great inspiration to women who aspire to the Gospel Ministry. Monday, March 9 – Nonja McKenzie (Fashion Celebrity Stylist)
Nonja, a Los Angeles native with a fashion forward sense of style, is a noted women’s fashion designer who has worked with the fashion image of A list clients such as Macy Gray, Jay Z, Gwen Stefani, Will Smith, Black Eyed Peas, to name a few. Her extraordinary work, garnered her the VH1 Vogue Fashion Award for Most Stylish Video for No Doubt’s “Ex Girlfriend”. As a designer, she previously featured her own designs on the runway at one of the Mercedes Benz LA Fashion Week shows. Mary J. Blige, Naomi Campbell and many others took interest in her designs as well as upscale stores and Flaunt, Italian Harper’s Bazaar and Spin Magazines. Later transitioning from a designer to a noted celebrity stylist, today, Nonja and her celebrity stylist friend, Jerod McClarin, formed McClarin & McKenzie, managed by the elite agency Opus Beauty. With a combination of 40 years, their client roster include Prince, Lil John, (American Idol) Candace Glover and others. Notably, for the last two years, until recent, Nonja (and Jerod) are accredited with the transformation of the new image of hip hop mogul, Nicki Minaj. From working with clients with small or large budgets, “pulling” clothes and preparing artists for the Red Carpet, any aspiring stylist would greatly benefit from the pearls of wisdom from this famed stylist. Monday, March 16 – Neicy Tribbett (Radio Broadcasting)
Neicy, or as we so affectionately call her, Lady Neicy T, began her broadcasting career as a young woman with a part time job at a local station in Trenton, NJ. Since that time, over the last 30 years, her creative ideas, love for music and strong, faithful listening audience caused her to successfully maneuver up the ladder in the (gospel) broadcasting industry holding such esteemed positions as On Air Personality, Music Coordinator and ultimately, Program Director. Today, Neicy T’s voice can be heard as the co-host of the (Recording Artist & Grammy Award Winner) Hezekiah Walker Afternoon Praise on 1190 AM WLIB in New York, an opportunity which she honors. Due to her longstanding expertise in gospel music and broadcasting, Neicy T has helped to guide the successful careers of all four of her gifted children who work within the gospel industry, including her more well known son and and his group, gospel recording artist, Tye Tribbett and GA. Lastly, Neicy T is the Founder of NT Management Services where she manages the careers of an artist, comedienne, reality show cast member and film writer. Lady Neicy T is no stranger to the microphone and an audience and can undoubtedly help any woman who wishes to fulfill her dream and break into radio broadcasting. Follow Neicy Tribbett here.
Monday, March 23 – Cassandra Cooper (TV & Film)
Cassandra can be considered a serial entrepreneur, a woman who’s works range from multi million-dollar media productions to and including a marketing guru in the music industry and a stakeholder in notable tech companies. Presently, Cassandra is the VP and Co-founder of Matriarch Multimedia Group, a national broadcasting company that owns multi television and radio networks. With a distribution through Dish, VOD and mobile apps, their body of production work consists of a library of 3500 television and movie titles, with greater than 32 million subscribers and over 10,000 mobile app downloads. Interestingly, the primary medium used to garner these numbers was through social media marketing. In 2012, Cassandra became the Original Programmer and New Media for Punch TV, and under her successful leadership, the company reached a distribution of over 59 million cable households. Today, as an acclaimed film and television producer, Cassandra continues to keep her finger on the pulse of media broadcasting and new artists. Her most recent client is Serayah McNeill, who plays the role of “Tiana” (Hakeem’s young girlfriend) on the hit Fox series, Empire.
Lastly, Cassandra’s prior career included working as a marketing guru in the music industry, propelling the careers of such artists as Jay Z, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, and more.
Monday, March 30 – Teedra Moses (Singer & Songwriter)
Being a native of New Orleans and having a mom as a soulful gospel singer, doesn’t give her any choice; its just in her bones to sing! And whenever she does, her powerful voice roars straight from her soul; no wonder she’s called “The Lioness”! Teedra did a short stint as an assistant stylist but eventually found her solace and destiny in music after the passing of her mother. Her first R&B debut album, to which she is Executive Producer, was called “Complex Simplicity”, boasting 14 tracks which she singlehandedly penned each word. While recording set backs delayed her sophomore album, it did not delay Teedra’s artistic ability to satisfy the demands of her loyal audience by releasing several “mix tapes” for them to enjoy. As a Grammy Nominated Songwriter and BMI Songwriter of the Year (twice), Teedra has written songs for Christian Milian, Mary J. Blige and Macy Gray. Her soulful vocals can also be heard on several Rick Ross projects, including, Family Ties. With profound commitment to her music, amazing stage performances, and a heartfelt connection to her fans (including the 80,000 between Facebook & Twitter), Teedra has become one of the most sought after R&B indie artist today, selling out intimate venues around the world.
